OPEN POSITIONS
SJJ Law is currently seeking an exceptional attorney with litigation experience. The ideal candidate will be licensed to practice law in Colorado, have a minimum of 3 years of litigation experience, excellent academic credentials, and strong writing, research, analytical, and verbal communication skills. Candidates should have experience in state and federal courts and first hand experience managing a litigation file from inception to closing. This includes handling discovery, motion practice, hearings and taking and defending depositions. Trial experience is a plus.
Preference will be given to candidates with property and liability insurance coverage, claims, and litigation experience, including policy interpretation and analysis, claim presentation, and insurance appraisal. Experience working with community associations and multi-unit housing is a plus for any prospective candidate.

Full Job Description
SJJ Law is seeking a talented Associate Attorney with 1–3 years of experience to join our general civil and HOA practice in Bloomington, MN. The ideal candidate will be licensed in Minnesota and have experience advising homeowners associations (HOAs), property managers, or multi-unit housing clients, in addition to handling general real estate and civil legal matters.
This is a unique opportunity to develop meaningful client relationships, sharpen your legal skills, and join a team that values collaboration, service, and leadership in shaping community association law.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise HOA boards and property managers on legal matters, including governing documents, compliance, enforcement, and collections
- Draft, revise, and interpret declarations, bylaws, rules, contracts, and resolutions
- Handle general civil legal matters including contracts, disputes, demand letters, and negotiations
- Provide guidance to clients regarding legal risks, options, and strategies
- Maintain regular communication with clients to build trust and ensure satisfaction
- Represent clients in administrative hearings or court proceedings when needed
- Manage deadlines and maintain accurate time entries for billable work
- Supervise legal assistants and delegate tasks as appropriate
- Respond to client inquiries within 24 hours with a substantive reply or timeframe
- Collaborate with other attorneys and contribute to the growth of the practice
- Stay current on legislative updates related to property, real estate, and association law
- Perform a minimum of 1500 billable hours annually
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required:
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in Minnesota
- 1–3 years of experience in general civil practice, real estate, or HOA/community association law
- Excellent communication, legal writing, and client service skills
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and case management software
Preferred:
- Experience working with HOAs, property managers, or common interest communities
- Familiarity with Minnesota Common Interest Ownership Act (MCIOA)
- Experience interpreting and drafting governing documents and contracts

Key Responsibilities
- Represent clients in litigation matters including court appearances, depositions, and negotiations
- Communicate regularly with clients, providing legal advice and managing expectations
